The Ventura Pier was built around 1872. The pier cost about $45,000 to build and considered the longest wooden. In 1942 the pier was hit by a ship. The pier had to be fixed. In 1917, it was rebuilt to a length of 1,700 ft. In 1995, the pier was reinforced with steel pilings after a portion of it was destroyed by a storm.
Surfer’s Point is a well-known area where surfers love to go because of the quality and the conditions of the water. This area is located near the fairgrounds.
Some other notable locations are AJ Comstock Fire Museum, Albinger Archeology Museum, Channel Islands National Park, Mission San Buenaventura, and Olivas Adobe.
The three top employers of Ventura in 2011 were County of Ventura, Ventura County Health Care Agency and Ventura Unified School District. According to the City’s 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, the County of Ventura had 7,991 employees. The Ventura County Health Care Agency had 2,493 employees and the Ventura Unified School District had 1,916 employees.

As you may have figured out, Lure Fish House serves seafood that is to die for. Many people go for the fish tacos that they cook.
